“German Village meeting haus”

Largest privately funded area on the National Historic Register. A few blocks south of downtown, German Village Historic District is 233 acres of history where old meets new. The result is a revitalized community proudly preserving its past for generations to come. Our homes and businesses are close to the sidewalk. Our brick streets are narrow. There are no buildings taller than three stories anywhere in our historic footprint. The scope and setback of our architecture is part of what makes our sense of place so powerful. Don’t miss our beautiful, vibrant parks as you stroll, including Schiller Park at the heart of the Village – where Actors’ Theatre Company draws thousands of visitors with its FREE Shakespeare performances all summer long. German Village is a pedestrian-friendly neighborhood that can best be appreciated on foot, in order to truly experience the unique architecture, brick-paved streets and beautiful parks.

This was fun. The Loft Bookstore was cool, but hard to find anything specific in there. If you’re just browsing, it’s great, but don’t expect to find any specific title. Schmidt’s was awesome. Great German food, and worth the wait. Winan’s Chocolates were amazing. Absolutely worth the walk to find it. And, finally, Helen Winnamore’s shop was probably the best shopping we found in the entire area.

Nice area for a quiet walk with a good change of scenery from typical neighborhoods. Besides Schmidt's not much in the way of German food/shopping. Pistacia Vera is lovely. The staff is friendly and the macaroons and tarts are wonderful.

Cute little neighborhood with some great restaurants and good shopping. Check out Thurman's, Schmidt's, and Harvest Pizzeria for places to eat and the Book Loft can keep you busy all day!

A really cool part of Columbus with a great feel and tons of great shops/restaurants. A really nice place for young people in Columbus to live, as well.

Cute little bookstore. Great for browsing everything from kids books to novels and other literature related Knickknacks.
