The house features local history exhibits from 1920s with special exhibits on military, civic events, Lion’s memoribilia, schools, Shelton gang, oil boom, sports, country stores, churches, gas pumps, and funeral home equipment. The Society also features local history from the 1800s through 1920. Features industry, Civil War, textiles, WW I and more. The Hanna House Museum is open Saturdays, April through October,10 a.m.--2 p.m. except on holidays. It is located at 101 E. Center Street, Fairfield, IL Please note that children are welcome but must be accompanied and directly supervised by adults at all times in the Hanna House. Food and drinks are not allowed. Admission is free. We regret that this 1874 building does not have handicapped-accessible restrooms. The Fairfield Public Library--one block east, has fully accessible facilities and similar hours.
This is one of the best local history museums I have ever visited, run by the Wayne County Historical Society. Features several rooms of artifacts from Wayne County's history over the past century. (The WCHS also operates an Early History Museum in the nearby Fairfield Public Library). I was especially happy to see many items from the long-gone Strand Theatre and from various schools and businesses. Note, this museum is currently only open April through October on Saturdays.
