“Overlook the scenic bay”
The stone plaza at Immigrant Point Overlook, dedicated to our nation’s newcomers, offers sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean, Marin Headlands, and, on a clear day, Point Reyes National Seashore. Red-tailed hawks can often be seen soaring above. Take a moment to soak in the picturesque coastline that has welcomed new arrivals for hundreds of years, and reflect on the President Woodrow Wilson quote carved in stone on the overlook wall: “We opened the gates to all the world and said, ‘Let all men who want to be free come to us and they will be welcome.’” Benches present the perfect place to watch the sun set over the ocean, with warm hues fading into a starry sky. The nearby Immigrant Point Picnic Area offers a peaceful place to take a break from a hike along the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail. For a more energetic detour, try the nearby Immigrant Point Connector Trail stairs which lead through the forest down to coastal bluffs, Baker Beach, and the Batteries to Bluffs Trail. The Immigrant Point Overlook was made possible with a gift from the Sarlo Foundation of the Jewish Community Endowment Fund.
