Hopewell Rocks

Awesome place to check out! Don't wear shoes you're not willing to possibly lose if you venture into the mud. Personally, it's worth taking the time to watch the tide come in and go out to see the extreme difference. You don't realize where you're walking until you see just how much of it actually lies beneath the ocean

Time your visit around low tide, plus or minus 2 hours (check the tables in advance!)
We found the 1-hour tour with a knowledgeable guide worthwhile. It started just after low tide.
We brought our own picnic as the (lower) cafe menu seemed basic and uninspired. Plenty of picnic tables and benches.
The gift shop carries some quality goods, not just the usual kitsch.
In mid August through September, migrating shorebirds arrive on the mud flats to feed on tiny shrimp to prepare for their 4 day non-stop flight to South America - bring your binoculars!

It is truly amazing how much the level of the water changes. The best idea would be to see the rocks at high tide and then again at low tide. Make sure you get to walk barefoot on the sand. Even with the tide out the sand is sooooo cold.

Awesome is right. Every day, more water exchanges in the Bay of Fundy than the total flow of ALL THE RIVERS IN THE WORLD discharging into the ocean.

You need to go before it's gone! With more and more erosion the rocks have a limited life span, a few months after my visit here one of the rocks collapsed. Not to say this is dangerous in any way, just trying to highligh that it is a MUST! You cn also book kayaking through the rocks in advance and this wuold be a very cool experience if you can fit it in!

Incredible. You need to walk around the area when the tide is out and come back when the tide is in. There is a kayak tour available although we did not take that. There is also a shuttle that will take you from the information center to the area where you can walk down to the floor. Fantastic day.
