“see 450 million year old fossils”
The entrance to the Saint-Léonard cave is located in the Pie XII Park in Saint-Léonard. A concrete staircase gives access and the entrance is closed by a solid grid. The cavern is 35 m long with a difference of 8 meters. The entrance opens onto a rectangular room about 2 meters high and 3 meters wide and 13 meters long. On its walls, the subhorizontal stratification is clearly distinguishable from the limestone rocks belonging to the Trenton Group of the Ordovician Period. The fossils of these limestones are more than 450 million years old. The Quebec Speleological Society offers guided tours by speleologist guides during the summer season. Visits are from late May to mid-August. For reservations, contact the Société québécoise de spéléologie at 514-252-3006
