You are invited to live on a 600-year old medieval house in the ridiculously-beautiful Celtic kingdom of Cornwall, bordering the equally gorgeous shire county of Devon. For real. The estate is called Cotehele, and it’s a medieval manor house located in Saltash, Calstock parish in Cornwall. The National Trust is looking for volunteers to live for free, in return for joining its team of gardeners, for at least three months. Seriously.

Your job would be to garden an absolutely GORGEOUS medieval estate and live for free in a 2-bedroom cottage. Maybe I’m just idealistic, but I imagine this playing out like a real-life Jane Austen novel.

Cotehele 3 - Ever dreamed of living in a medieval house...for free? Well, now you can.

The fortified manor house was first built in 1411, then re-modeled during the early 1500s. In order to protect it from skirmishing armies, Cotehele was set on a bluff above the river Tamar, and was owned by the Edgcumbe family for about 600 years. The ornate interior of the medieval house was developed by the Edgcumbe family from 1750-1860.

Oh, did I mention, you only have to commit to a FOUR DAY WORK WEEK! Yeah, so you’ll have plenty of time to find your very own Mr. Darcy at the local pub.*
