St Andrews Library

St. Andrews Library is located in the centre of the town, close to shops and other local amenities.  The library is a bright, light and modern library environment which enhances the original features of the building such as the stained glass windows and high ceiling. The colour schemes, shelving, fittings and furniture add to the light and airy feel, and complement the clean lines of the interior. The  library has a wide range of books, DVDs, reference and local history materials, community and Council information.  A self service terminal is available on the ground floor. This allows items to be borrowed and returned without the need to go to the main desk. A dozen computers give free access to the internet for information and email, to on-line learning resources, and to office applications such as word processing, databases and desk-top publishing. The 10 PCs on the first floor can be booked by the casual user but are also available for classes to be delivered by the local colleges. 2 PCs are located in the children’s library and are useful for helping with homework and projects. St. Andrews Library also has a meeting/activity room. It is used for events such as children’s activities and story-times, author visits, displays and exhibitions. The library based adult and teenage reading groups also use it for their monthly meetings. It is also available for community use and can be booked by groups and organisations for meetings and events. It provides a venue during the annual StAnza International Poetry Festival. The building has picture rails around the walls on both floors and in the meeting room. Local artists can use this as exhibition space, and children’s artwork can also be displayed here.
