Old Stables, Wissett Lodge

The Kiddy family have farmed at Wissett Lodge since 1954. Wissett is set in the rolling countryside of north east Suffolk near the town of Halesworth and about ten miles from Southwold on the coast. The farm is almost 300 acres of mainly heavy clay land growing wheat, barley and oilseed rape. In recent years we have introduced our own flock of rare breed Norfolk Horn sheep which has now expanded to be around fifty strong. Some of our meadowland is let out for cattle to graze in the summer. Over the years we have accumulated a number of items of farming and domestic memorabilia and these are now housed in a farm outbuilding as a small museum. There is a farm map showing the ancient field names together with farm walks and Nature Trail. Close to the farmhouse we have recently established an arboretum. The arboretum, the farm walks and our small museum can all be explored by visitors.  Visitors to Wissett Lodge requiring bed and breakfast accommodation can stay in our farmhouse double room with super-kingsize bed, or as two singles if preferred, with large ensuite bathroom, excellent breakfast of local produce, Freeview TV and Wi-Fi (open April to October inclusive). In The Old Stables we have four self catering holiday homes which have been skilfully and beautifully converted from Victorian farm buildings. Hartopp and Bloomsbury have one bedroom each whilst Golden Miller and Fleetwood each have a double bedroom plus a twin bedroom. Each bedroom has its own ensuite facilities. All four holiday homes have been awarded Visit Britain 4 stars. Two accept pets. Fleetwood has been specially designed for disabled / wheelchair use and has the Visit Britain M2 mobility award. These delightful properties have warmth and character making them a comfortable rural haven from which to explore the Suffolk countryside and coast.
