“1000 years old inn”

The Ancient Ram Inn has a lot going against it. Not only is it rumored to be built on a very spooky Ley Line, it's also positioned atop an ancient pagan burial ground. It also doesn't help that the building's quite literally 1000 years old, and that's lots of years of tragedy, violence, and bloodshed for one building to experience. It was built sometime in 1145AD and according to believers, if you follow the Ley Line from stone Stonehenge, it makes its way to the Ram where it crosses in a perfect intersection: "Ley lines are supposed alignments of numerous places of geographical and historical interest, such as ancient monuments and megaliths, natural ridge-tops and water-fords. The phrase was coined in 1921 by the amateur archeologist Alfred Watkins, in his books Early British Trackways and The Old Straight Track. He sought to identify ancient trackways in the British landscape. Watkins later developed theories that these alignments were created for ease of overland trekking by line-of-sight navigation during neolithic times, and had persisted in the landscape over millennia. - wikipedia The structure was originally built to house the men who were working on the cathedral, which is still located across the street. Many theorize that when the nearby stream (commonly located next to Ley Lines) was diverted, the natural flow was changed, and a dark gateway or "vortex" was opened in its place. Obviously.  Throughout the course of history, bizarre and sometimes terrible things happened at the Ancient Ram. A woman staying at the inn was labeled a witch and burnt at the stake, but her story was just the tip of the iceberg. Murders, dark occult rituals, child sacrifices... those are just a few of the terrible things that have happened on the property over the last few hundred years. The Ram has been owned by 115 people, until 1968 when it was bought by John Humphries, a man who (before living at the Ram) considered himself a skeptic.  He quickly became a believer: "I knew nothing of the hauntings when I bought the place. It wasn't until the first night, when I felt a pair of cold, hairy hands pulling me out of bed, that I knew something strange was going on at the Ram. My daughters regularly saw a large black cat like creature and I have since found out that this animal – an evil incubus – features in many paranormal situations. Several of our visitors have been thrown out of chairs and others have felt icy hands in bed. - John Humphries During the time that John has owned the house, he's had plenty of his own experiences, one of which involved him discovering the skeletal remains of small children buried under the stairs, their bodies were still pierced with the daggers that killed them. The famous black cat is the most commonly spotted spirit at the inn, which would seem less spooky aside from the fact that, more often than not, he tends to speak to people. Sometimes visitors to the inn experience a nightly visit from what the resident incubus, or succubus depending on whether you're a man or woman. The inn has been featured on pretty much every popular paranormal television show in history, and if you're interested in bumping into some of the ghosts for yourself, John always has his doors open for people looking to prove (or disprove) the house ghosts. All you have to do is ask. Just try not to talk to any cats while you're there. - Roadtrippers
