“Gisborne's award winning museum and art gallery.”
The museum and art gallery has a reputation as one of the very best, most innovative regional museums in New Zealand. In recent years we have undergone significant change including major building extensions, redevelopment of all exhibition spaces, and the establishment of a broadly representative Board of Trustees.
Our vision is to become an integral part of the community of the Tairāwhiti and our role extends beyond our own four walls to the most remote parts of the region. The museum features hanging exhibitions of regional history, local and national art exhibitions, and a historic cottage and ship to explore. Monday to Saturday 10am – 4pm, Sunday & Public Holidays 1.30pm – 4pm. Changing exhibitions of regional history, local and national art exhibitions, and a historic cottage and ship to explore.
On Kelvin Park alongside the river, a 5-minute walk from town. Free parking. Exhibit Cafe open Monday – Saturday, 10am – 3pm. Entry $5 visiting adults, $2 Tairāwhiti residents, under 12 free.
