“A place to lose a few hours.”
Walking in a loop around the Avon River through Christchurch Botanic Gardens is such an easy, serene thing to do. Bordered on three sides by the green expanse of Hagley Park (or orange and red and yellow expanse during April), they are highly regarded and attract over a million visitors every year. A place of ever-changing scenery, the gardens are open every day at 7am, and they're set right in the beating heart of Christchurch. Admission's free because who can charge for natural beauty like this?
The Botanical Gardens are definitely worth a visit if you have kids. There is a great playground with a climbing stone, plenty of space to run around, ducks to feed, a calm and meandering river to paddle on, and a great cafe.
