“Outdoors & Recreation in Cincinnati, OH”

The Redbird Hollow trail is one of Indian Hill’s numerous paths along ridges and through forests. A naturalist’s delight, this 54-acre tract in the southwestern quadrant of the Village belongs to the Nature Conservancy and the Redbird Hollow Association. Long ago glaciers that spread to southwestern Ohio carved ridges and hollows through which streams then flowed. The glacial conglomerate in Redbird Hollow reveals the era in which the land was shaped and the physical characteristics of that time. Today, Redbird Hollow remains a serene preserve where wildflowers abound, and deciduous and coniferous trees shade the trail. Woodpeckers, sapsuckers and owls inhabit the valley as well as deer, fox and coyote. This wild remnant of Ohio forestland and stream, designated an Ohio Natural Landmark in 1983, remains a fragile oasis in the heart of Indian Hill.

Where do I begin, so many memories of running this beautiful trail. This became a staple of our high school soccer conditioning being located adjacent to our high school (Indian Hill). This is exactly what I picture a great trail run to look like with creeks, trees, flowers, and wildlife all around. There's a few entrances to the trail with a start being a Stephan Field (my usual spot).

I realize this trail really doesn't compare to the kind of hiking you can do out West around other really stunning places, but as far as getting into nature near Cincinnati, I love this place. It's a trail that winds through the woods alongside a creek. The creek is fun to hike up and if there's been enough rain, there are some small waterfalls and swimming holes that form that are pretty cool. Lots of people take their dogs to run on the trail, mostly off-leash. Every season is beautiful here, winter after a good snow turns into a Narnia-esque winter wonderland, spring is beautiful with lush fields of blooming tulips worthy of Lord of the Rings, summertime is super lush and being near the water is great, in the fall the trees light up and look really beautiful. Take the kids, take the dog, take yourself.

Stunning trail off the beaten path. This is one of my favorite places to hike in Cincy. We used to take our dog here a lot to get out. My favorite time of year here is the winter, as the leaves are all gone and the creek is usually frozen over. If you're a trail runner, this place will be right up your alley as well.

Awesome trails tucked back into the woods in Indian Hill. The entrance of the trail is right behind the playground of Stephan Field and if you didn't know the trail existed, it would be one hell of a discovery. Very scenic, heavily shaded in most areas and a nice creek running throughout.
