“The Finest Surf Fishing Anywhere!”
A sweeping Grand Strand beach, pristine and wide open, stands as one of the most recognizable South Carolina landmarks. Revel in sea-breeze camping, the finest surf fishing South Carolina has to offer and some of the top bird-watching on the East Coast. That’s not all Huntington Beach State Park has to offer. There are also South Carolina landmarks such as Atalaya, the picturesque, Moorish-style winter home of Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington, philanthropist and sculptor, respectively, who left the park and adjacent Brookgreen Gardens as their legacy. Nature lovers also will enjoy the park’s Nature Center and wide variety of programming, including the chance to see loggerhead turtles and other endangered plant and animal species up close. The park’s freshwater lake is a sure-fire place to see alligators and sometimes even a mink or two. Pet-friendly, but remember to use a leash!

The park has a lot of different site types from totally shaded, less private, tent sites and group camping - and all are really comfortable in size. There's no sewer, but you can get water and electric, and there are paths directly to the beach.

This is the ideal campground. We had a spacious site, with plenty of room between other sites and campers. We are able to walk across the road and over a board walk to the ocean and the most amazing beach. There are two other beach access points at the campground as well. The sand was so well packed that it was very easy to walk the beach, which we thoroughly enjoyed! The water in the showers is so hot you actually have to use cold water also and there is free wireless. We were on site 12, which is an outstanding location. The bathhouse was "in our backyard" and the ocean was in our front yard. The wireless router is housed in the bathhouse so the signal at our site was excellent. There is also a nice campground gift store with basics and lots of cute touristy stuff. There is a paved bike path which runs north and south from the campground. We rode it for a bit, but it runs so close to the highway that all you could hear was traffic noise. Walking the beach was a better option.

This is a beautiful campground that's located just over the dunes from one of South Carolina's most beautiful beaches. Be aware that there are two different campgrounds in the park and they look like totally different locations. The older campground is the North Campground and is by far the best of the two. All spaces have power and water but only a hand full have full hookups. The spaces are all nice size and offer quite a bit of privacy from one another. Live oak trees offer tons of shade in many spaces. The South Campground is new with concrete pads and all sites have full hookups. Very few have any shade and they have crammed in about 5 spots to 2 in the North Campground. It's actually a shame that they did this. We originally had site 170 booked in the South Campground and I literally couldn't extend my awning without touching the camper next to me. It was so tight, we asked if we could move to the North campground and even though we didn't have full hook-ups, we were glad we made the move. I have pics of both and you shouldn't have any trouble spotting the North compared to the South Campground. The beach is beautiful, bathrooms are spotless, Staff is wonderful, and the North campground is fantastic. They said that there was Wi-fi but we never could see it. We used a WeBoost antenna and had 3 bars verizon and were able to watch sling TV though that. We wouldn't stay in the South campground even if that's all they had.

We love camping here, clean, quiet, pet friendly. Entrance is tricky if you to see if you don't know where it is and tricky to get out of traffic and turn if traveling south due to traffic on main road. Site numbers are painted on the road and can be tricky to see. We love the North "old" campsites even thought they are water and electric only, gravely dirt mix and just slightly uneven not enough for us to break out levelers. Not sure what the other prices paid that are listed. We paid$48/night for the old campground, the new South Campsites with full hook ups are $61/night. We did not qualify for any discount, no Good Sam, military or National park pass.

Beautiful, friendly, and clean campground! There is beach access and wildlife abounds. It is close to restaurants, shopping, Brookgreen Gardens, and many other attractions. My husband and I look forward to visiting again. WIFI is sketchy but other than that no complaints and that wasn’t a big deal.

We stayed at south end which is all paved and full hookup. Price is lower in north end, but it's not paved and not full hookup. We had an easy board walk to the beach. Clean, secure and quiet. I forgot to check the cell phone bars, but we have Verizon and had great service. Even used our hotspot for Roku streaming.

Yes - will be back again!
At first ranger station-got directions to the office, at office given our packet - Very easy.
Made reservation 13 months prior to arrival, paid $38/night for FHU in the North Campground. No concrete pads in North cg. except for two special sites for person with mobility disability. All South cg sites have concrete pads, but felt closer together. North has large expanse of grass and tree areas-lots of mockingbirds singing.
Get a site near a bathhouse for best WiFi reception.
If it rains hard, we saw a lot of water buildup around the raised parking areas of sites. Upon arrival, our site had a moat on two sides and that is the only negative comment I can make!
Very good Verizon and ATT cell coverage and over 30 OTA stations - mostly rerun channels and some Spanish language - some shopping channels.
Lots of good bike trails and walking trails. The beach is huge and not crowded in March. Shopping is very close by but you are not in the middle of the Myrtle Beach traffic jams.
Nature is abundant here. The causeway and marsh walk have myriad species of birds. Couple of big alligators sunning themselves along the grassy side of the causeway. (Be Careful)
Park rangers and park staff extremely friendly. Felt welcomed by all.

There’s so much to love about this campground and state park! Most sites are generously sized for our midsized camper and there are plenty of sites for big rigs. Most are shaded and reasonably private, some very private. The beach is beautiful and clean. The rest of the park offers trails and marsh overlooks. The staff if helpful and kind. Murrell’s Inlet is a bike ride (on a bike path) to the north and Pawleys Island is to the south. Cell phone coverage was good for Verizon but the WiFi wasn’t. We used our phone as a hotspot. But all of the positives more than make up for that small inconvenience! We absolutely loved it and will go again!,

We stayed two nights at this lovely campground in March 2020. Our particular site (127) was very shady and tucked away from the road. Quite a bit of privacy between the campsites in the north campground, especially the shaded loop. Bathroom facilities had shower stalls, all were very clean. (The newer campground loop has little or no shade and no privacy; the price you pay for updated bathrooms/showers I suppose).
We walked to the beach every day thanks to the well kept trails from the campground. The beach was very quiet during our early spring stay, but I imagine that it gets much more busy during the summer. Overall this park was beautiful! We would definitely camp here again.

It is a very short walk from the campground to the beach. There are two beach access trails, and I was on the beach after a short, 5 minute, walk from my campsite. The restroom and showers were clean. To use the wifi I had to go and sit up by the shower building. Which was no big deal for me because I only used it once. Our campsite was nice and shady. The only bad thing about the park is that there is no traffic signal at the park's entrance. Highway 17 is very busy. It was nice to be away from all of the activity of MB, and there are places to dine nearby is one chooses to dine out.
