“rich with history & spirit”
Welcome to the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. Our parish is rich with history and filled with spirit. We are passionate about our faith and invite all Catholics and more to celebrate the Liturgy with us. We are dedicated to enriching the spiritual lives of our parishioners as well as giving back to our Savannah community. We encourage you to join us and be a part of our strong, supportive family. In September 1998, the Most Reverend J. Kevin Boland, the thirteenth bishop of Savannah, commenced a major restoration for the Cathedral. Directed by the Cathedral Rector, Monsignor William O. O'Neill, the exterior project included the replacement of the slate roof. Conrad Schmitt Studios of New Berlin, Wisconsin was commissioned for the restoration of the decorative paint scheme, murals, stained glass and Stations of the Cross. The restoration was completed in November 2000 to honor the 150th anniversary of the diocese and the 100th anniversary of the rededication of the Cathedral.
Beautiful cathedral and you're welcome to explore the inside. Architecture buffs will appreciate the design, and religious folks will probably find it very serene and peaceful. I loved Savannah, and as far as Catholic churches go, this one is simply gorgeous. Definitely remember to take your camera.
Beautiful church and breath taking architecture. Attended a Latin mass. It was my first Latin mass and it's interesting to see the differences between the everyday English mass and the Latin mass.
Very beautiful Cathedral! All I heard was wow every time someone entered the front doors
Gorgeous, must see this piece of history in the historic district of downtown Savannah
Absolutely breath taking. The stained glass throughout the cathedral is stunning, with so much detail. I went right after Christmas and the nativity was still out and it took up nearly an I entire side of the alter. I would recommend it for anyone interested in not architecture but also art.
