Iconic Attraction

Our Take

The inside of the National Archives features some pretty low light so even if you have 20/20 vision you still want to pay close attention to where you’re walking when you’re visiting. The lighting is set like this to protect the old and fragile documents on display, which include, most notably, the original United States Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution, and the United States Bill of Rights. There’s something incredibly cool about seeing documents that hold so much importance: The very foundations of our country are contained within these artifacts.

“Home of the U.S. Constitution”

The National Archives Museum holds the United States Government's Charters of Freedom, the U. S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Declaration of Independence for viewing. The National Archives Museum depicts our astounding national mosaic and tells the stories of the American journey to young and old, scholars and students, cynics and dreamers.

Very fun to see the original documents from the founding of America. However, the line is quite long to get in and you don't have much time in front of the documents. They make you move along quite quickly and the documents are very faded. For me, it was worth it to wait in line and see them, but that would not be true for everyone especially depending on time restrictions.

If you have time I would go but if you have a tight schedule don't bother. There is not much here and they make so many replicas of the documents what is the point. No photos allowed.

While it's great to see the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, the lines here can be quite long. The amount of people roaming about is comparable to the rest of the museums on the Mall, but because there are so few items to look at it feels much more crowded and time-consuming. The building is beautiful, inside and out.
