It is hard to believe this campground hasn't been reviewed. There are 5 camping sites with electric and water available by reservation and additional tent sites throughout the park available on a first-come-first-served basis. The campsites are gravel, close to level and quite long. After arriving I was told our site was the best as it is off by itself. All the sites are in the middle of this popular park so there are joggers and dog walkers etc. going by but very quiet at night as the park is very open and spacious. It is also right on the water with a large marina nearby, so the views are lovely. The camp hosts were very helpful when making my reservations on the phone and called in advance to provide entry instructions since the park was closed on Christmas day. As the photos show, there is playground, horseshoes, volleyball, basketball and baseball. A recreational path, The Lakeshore Trail, starts at the park entrance plus the lake has several more parks, trails, and campgrounds. Hardly seems like you're surrounded by civilization (such as Plano) so the OTA TV signals are great as is the cellular reception. No problem with solar or satellite should you need it.

These sites are closest to the lake and the most private. The other 3 are right next to one another. Park staff is friendly, they empty site trash barrels daily, sites have water and electric (50 & 30 at site 4), and there’sa dump station in the park.

Camp sites 1-4 are 1-2 inch gravel and 5 is an asphalt pull through.

Lots of day use for running, biking and picnics. Area can get noisy during the day with the beach and playground but is very peaceful at night.

Sunsets are amazing over the water.

Our AT&T hotspot got about 10MBPS up and down.

This is a clean, nice park. They have free showers and restrooms on site but they are only open during park hours, 7am to 7pm. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They let us borrow a 30 to 50 amp adapter for the electrical hookup. We were in site # 1, it is right next to #2 and #3. Has water and electric but no sewer hookup. They do have a dump station on site and you don’t need the doughnut for your hose.
It’s about 20-30 minutes (with tolls) north of downtown Dallas with normal traffic. If you want a quite place outside of Dallas this is it, but it will be a drive to most things you want to do in Dallas.
The last road in is very rough for a city road, about 2 miles.
We would stay here again

This was our first time staying at this park. We have family that live in The Colony and visited for the Thanksgiving holiday. We knew zero things about this park before booking, so hopefully this review will help future people!

First off, we paid $25 a night instead of the normal $35 because we are technically residents of The Colony. Normal non-resident fee is $35. Someone mentioned the city road leading to the park is rough, it’s not that bad at all. East to get to off the main road in The Colony. There are only 5 RV spots, we stayed in #4. #5 is a pull thru paved spot by itself, but sits right on the main road. #4 is gravel and on the same road but off just a bit. Both of these are near the bathroom. 1-3 are close together and not too far from #4. Would definitely recommend staying in 4 or 5. No shade at any of the spots, or full hookups. This is in a city park, so it was semi-busy on the weekends but super quiet during the week. The bathrooms close at 7pm and open at 7am during the winter months, which is a pain if you’re staying longer than a few days and don’t want to go dump several times. Dump station is easy to get in and out of. The park locks at 7pm, but they give you the gate code. However, just FYI, it’s a padlock/chain/manual gate you have to get out and open instead of punching in numbers in an automatic gate. There were a few nights (weekends) that some boat party-ers were super loud with their music, but otherwise quiet. You are right on the water, and it can get really windy. No tent campers are allowed right now due to Covid, which kept the park pretty empty! All in all, this is a great little park near the metroplex.

Came to The Colony Texas to visit our Son and the park is 5 minutes from his house. We felt lucky to grab one of the 5 sites. The park has electric and water only but there is a dump station. The staff is wonderful and the park is only open from 7 am to 7 pm so there are two gates which they provide the combos to enter after hours. Loved our visit and will return.

We stumbled onto this campground after a disappointing visit to a nearby campground. This is a city park that added a few RV spots so most consumers are locals coming to hang out at the beach/marina. It is a restricted , pay-to-play, gated facility. We arrived on the 4th of July and WHOA there were so many people. Fortunately our activities were away from the park that evening. Surprising, the next morning the trash wasn’t that bad.

The good
Nice, gravel sites. Level. Pull thru. Can pull either way if your hose and shore line are long enough.
Very well kept grounds.
Beautiful views - sunsets!!
Quiet place during the weekdays. Holidays, not so much. Weekends I would imagine it gets busy.
Nice walking paths - can walk into the neighborhood.

The not as awesome…
The bathhouse wasn’t just incredibly clean BUT we arrived on a busy holiday and it had been heavily used that day. They were also hot and humid as they weren’t air conditioned and it is Texas in July. The website also notes that the bathhouse closes as the time the park closes. This can be a problem if your activities take you out late and you depend on shower facilities. (There is not septic drops at sites and we have four of us to shower.) This can potentially be remedied by speaking to the campground host. 😉

Public access does change the traditional campground culture. At a campground, we typically aren’t too concerned about leaving out our items (I.e. Blackstone, ice maker, etc…) but we weren’t as comfortable with that here. We had zero issues. But it’s just a different feel.

There are no shade tress and well, the sun is bigger in Texas too. We had to work to keep our rig cool in the afternoons.

We will stay here again. Overall it was a very good experience.
