“a large boulder sitting in rural southwest Iowa”
Local artist paints a new patriotic theme on this large rock each year as a tribute to the armed forces serving our country. Visit Ray "Bubba" Sorensen's studio in Greenfield.
Amazing! Beautiful painting, very touching. It is a MUST SEE!
Each year in early May, artist Ray "Bubba" Sorensen II repaints this nearly 60-ton boulder as a way to honor our troops.
This was a great stop that was surprisingly moving. A local photographer told us that this year the ashes of the fallen soldiers depicted on the rock were mixed with the paint. Excellent artistry and moving tribute.
Worth the detour. Great story and nice tribute
This was impressive and worth seeing. Thank you for the giving the memory of the sacrifice of others.
Quick little stop off the highway in a beautiful setting. The rock is skillfully painted. Great place to stretch your legs and enjoy the view.
Glad we stopped even though the detour was all dirt roads. We had lunch there at the picnic table. They had a port a jon as well.
Great place to pay your respects to our military!
It's a painted rock. Serves as a pretty landmark and respect to U.S troops. Supposedly he goes around every Iowa county and paints a rock so there's more of these out there.
Beautiful Artwork, worth seeing on your way through
