“The worlds only life-sized chocolate moose!”
When Len Libby first opened for business in 1926, you couldn't have found a better example of Yankee work ethic than that of owner Len Libby. At first, Mr. Libby apprenticed with several candymakers, and later worked as master candymaker in the Portland area for several decades. When he retired, he found he couldn't stay away from candymaking, so he opened his own shop near Higgins Beach in Scarborough, ME. At a time when much of the world's goods were still handmade, the fine art of candymaking was appreciated and admired by young and old alike, and Len Libby's fine selections soon became widely popular. In 1949, Len Libby sold his business to Fernand Hemond who had begun his apprenticeship in the Higgins Beach shop while still in college. From his earliest days with the company, Fern pledged to remain steadfast in his commitment to the shop's original recipes and to the proud traditions of candymaking. Open year round except for Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day.
Cool to see a life sized chocolate moose! There is also a giant painted map of the US outside near the bathrooms.
Chocolate was delicious, and the life-size chocolate moose was very impressive! Pretty pricey, but the quality and service are worth it!
People were super nice the candy was the best!!! But it was expensive.
Lots of fudge and candy available inside; not the best prices but the selection is great and the truffles are delicious.
Tried the fudge, chocolate and had 3 different kinds of the Ice Cream, all were great and staff were very nice, friendly and helpful.
Chocolate and fudge were delicious and the people were super nice!
