“explore the world's largest cave”

Sơn Đoòng Cave was originally discovered in 1991 by a local man named Hồ-Khanh. However, fear of the sounds from its underground river prevented any exploration. It wasn’t until 2009 that British scientists embarked on an expedition to fully explore this mammoth cavern. Their findings are incredible. They would have explored further but a large calcite wall stood in their way. Discovered in 1991. Explored in 2009. The entrance is “a passage carved by a subterranean river millions of years ago.” The cave itself is an underground labyrinth that’s over 2.5 mi long (4.0 km). The cave is named, Hang Son Doong, or “mountain river cave” and it’s located along the Vietnam-Laos border.  Thus far a jungle has been discovered in the cave. The cave it also tall enough to fit a skyscraper. There’s also a fast-flowing underground river.
