“Fictional site of Carcosa”
This place is on private property. Listing for informational purposes only. Please do not visit without express permission from the land owner. Fort Macomb is a 19th-century fortress in Louisiana, on the western shore of Chef Menteur Pass. The fort is adjacent to the Venetian Isles community, now legally within the city limits of New Orleans, Louisiana, although some miles distant from the city when first built and still a considerable distance from the main developed portion of the city. The HBO series True Detective was filmed on location at Fort Macomb. The fort portrays "Carcosa," where the crimes at the heart of the series were committed.
Just FYI: Fort Macomb is not correctly positioned on the Roadtrippers map. The fort is not nearly as remote as the map here suggests. Finding it doesn't seem like it would be very difficult. I can't speak on whether or not gaining access is difficult (yet).
Nothing to see!!!!!! So mad right now. That’s 2 things on this trip that is NOT there!!!
Fort Mcomb is closed to the public due to damage from hurricanes Katrina and Isaac, and it is unsafe to go here. However, Fort Pike is about 5 miles north on chef hwy and is identical to fort mcomb. Fort pike is open to the public and is accessible by car.
