“An architectural and cinematic gem”

This architectural gem has been featured in many movies over the years, including Derailed. But it's the marble staircase here—featured in the climatic scene from The Untouchables—that still attracts visitors over 20 years later. Union Station is a major train station that opened in 1925 in Chicago, replacing an earlier 1881 station. It is now the only intercity rail terminal in Chicago, as well as being the city's primary terminal for commuter trains. The station stands on the west side of the Chicago River between Adams Street and Jackson Street, just outside the Chicago Loop. Including approach and storage tracks, it is about nine and a half city blocks in size. Its facilities are mostly underground, buried almost entirely beneath streets and skyscrapers.

The most beautiful train station in the United States! The architecture of this place is incredible. Just be careful not to miss your train while you're wandering around looking at it's beauty.

Union Station isn't what I typically think of as a tourist spot, but if you have the chance I would definitely recommend checking it out. It's a beautiful station that harkens back to the days when a train terminal was a visitor's first impression of a city, so its architecture is grand as can be. Nowadays it makes for great people watching and a sense of what life is like for the city's inhabitants and commuters.

There's something incredibly romantic about train stations, and this one is no different. Beautiful architecture... Great people watching. You should stop in to see it even if you aren't there catching a train.

So much hustle and bustle here, you could honestly spend the whole day people-watching and architecture-gawking. It's right in the heart of downtown, so it's pretty easy to find.
