“known as the healing waters”

For years people have gathered at the springs to bathe, rest and worship. Many people believe that there are curative properties associated with the hot mineral water and refer to the Springs as "the healing waters" It is rumored that long ago the Springs were neutral ground and shared in peace by all. Once part of the original Fort Hall reservation, the springs and land were part of a treaty agreement between the Indians and the US Government in the late 1800's. The federal government purchased the springs and land, approximately 178 acres including the springs.  A 1902 act granted the lands to the State of Idaho to be held by the State for public use. Later all rights to the operation, management, control, maintenance and improvement of the lands and property were vested in the Lava Hot Springs Foundation, an agency within the Idaho Dept. of Parks & Recreation.

Lava Hot Springs is an absolute "must see"! A quaint little town, beautiful scenery, and THE BEST hot pools you'll find anywhere. The facility is spotlessly clean and enjoyable year-round.

Loved this place...fun for whole family. Pools on one end of town geared more for adults. Five pools ranging in temp from 101-116. These are natural mineral springs. Also rafting setup and went through town. All in all, we talked about.

You can just about see and do everything within a day, but it's worth it to take two days to really thoroughly enjoy all that this hideaway has to offer. Made a detour to spend the night there and see the hot tubs, but was pleasantly surprised with beautiful walking trails along the river, the historical museum, tubing on the river that goes through town, and then I'm not sure how I didn't know about this, but there is the "Olympic Swimming Complex" that has two big slides that you'll definitely see as you come into town.

I was so interested until we actually got to the town. We accidentally stopped at a hotel on the way in, looking for the pool in this picture. The hotel had a nasty looking pool that they claimed was a hot spring. By the time we found the place with the pools in this picture, I couldn't help but think of it as a glorified hot tub with a hefty price tag. I asked if we could feel how hot the water was, and they informed me that each pool was a different temperature. How nice of nature to regulate each pool... ;D

It was pretty there, and if I had been coming for rest and relaxation alone with my husband, it would have been perfect. Nice looking facility. I had been more interested in exposing my kids to natural hot springs, so wasn't my cup of tea that day.

Place must be awesome in the winter. It was a nice place to hang with the family after a few hours of travel. Very nice pools in a cool little town.
