“Don't let the boring parking lot fool you”
A beautiful path highlighting several waterfalls, picturesque bridges, gorgeous flowers, and beautiful trees, as well as interpretive signs telling you all about the geology and history of this area. "Tumwater" is a Chinook word for "noisy," and the waters here are very loud!
At Tumwater Falls Park, where the Deschutes River falls through the Cascade Mountains, visitors can enjoy day hikes through native flora and finish the day at the Falls Terrace Restaurant, with picturesque views of the water. There are 15 acres filled with natural, picturesque beauty and year round atmosphere of enjoyment for those of all ages. A wide variety of native trees and shrubs line both sides of the river as it pitches and eddies through a gorge of rapids and deep pools, its course culminating in a mist-filled plunge over Tumwater Falls.
This was a delightful surprise. So glad we stopped here! (I did add some photos; check the gallery.)
Very nice place to stop. Green and lush. Would’ve stayed longer if it wasn’t January.
Well maintained picnic area and park, clean bathrooms. The falls were pretty, and a nice respite in the middle of a busy city. The falls were nice but not overly social.
Very nice park! Great place to get away from the traffic and take a walk. Well worth a stop and look past the parking lot!
Nice .8 mile walking trail. Partially closed because of storm damage however the 5 month old puppy and I were able to still see both the upper and lower falls.
Delightful little stop! Don’t let the parking lot fool you!
Great little day trip. Paved path, playground... beautiful and packed with history. We went with our teens and their nana. Great trail for my mom. Also, the restaurant was a great lunch stop, good gluten free food along with excellent service.
This is an amazingly beautiful stop with some great walking paths. I definitely recommend stopping and stretching your legs. Depending on the time of year it looks like there might be Salmon, but not when I dropped by.
They also make it incredibly dog friendly by having plenty of posts with poop bags around the park.
If given the chance I would definitely stop again for a walk mid road trip.
A great walk to get out of the car and stretch your legs!
