“good cold brew coffee”
There are some new and interesting coffee things going on at Cheapside. In addition to Chemex drip coffee, espresso drinks and pour-overs, they have Japanese-style nitro iced coffee. That's coffee brewed double-strength into a keg, then served through a nitro tap, like a Guinness. It gives the coffee the same kind of cascading, foamy effervescence as a Guinness, more velvety than bubbly. They also serve a chinotto. Throw that name around like it's an obscure Italian coffee drink, and don't mention that Cheapside made it up. It's a shot of espresso, tonic made by Wells, and soda. They're open just for breakfast and lunch, with oatmeal brulee, French toast, salads and sandwiches. 7 a.m.- 4 p.m. Monday-Saturday 326 E. 8th St., Downtown, 513-345-6618.
I'd been wanting to try Cheapside for a while because I've heard good things the place looks cool and it didn't disappoint! The space is really cool, minimalist, right in line with their food, which is absolutely delicious. I had a grilled cheese that had spaghetti squash and tomatoes in addition to the cheese, making them lighter than a traditional grilled cheese. I could have very happily eaten 10 of them. It's literally just the sandwich on the plate though, no sides or anything, so if you're hungry you should probably double-up and get two things.
You order at the counter and then they bring the food to you when it's ready so there's definitely a pretty casual vibe. Picnic tables outside that you can share with strangers if there aren't any free tables.
Wish they were open at night! There isn't much around them in the way of bars or restaurants so you wouldn't necessarily stumble across it, but it's just a few blocks from OTR and definitely worth a visit. Would be a great place to go for coffee (free refills) or to work for a few hours as well.
I know oatmeal is probably the least sexy food imaginable but their oatmeal is amazing. Everything we ordered from here I'd order again! And you can tell they take their coffee very seriously- definitely better than Starbucks. Next time I'll try and sit outside on the super nice patio.
We tried their breakfast and lunch, and it didn't disappoint. Their cold brew coffee on nitro is the star of the show, though. It's coffee that goes down like a cold Guinness. Must-try.
This is a hipstery little spot with fantastically amazing coffee and delicious food! Everything we tried was good!
Such a find! A little whitewashed oasis where you can sit outside in a wooden teepee! The chorizo and egg sandwich was incredible. The grilled cheese has spaghetti squash in it, which is pretty cool, and yummy. It's a bit more of an intense order, though.
i want to go here for a class trip
The hipster vibe may be a turn off for some, but the food here should be enough to convince you to stay. The place has a great aesthetic and their breakfast food is heavenly. Their french toast challah is to die for. Try and sit outside if you have the chance.
Really cool spot and love the Tepee out back on the patio! Coffee is really good, breakfast sandwiches are on point, and I get the curry chicken salad for lunch almost every time - amazing! Can get crowded but worth waiting.
I had been meaning to go to Cheapside for a while, and finally made it there last weekend. Prices are high, relatively speaking, with coffee costing over two bucks and an egg sandwich dialing in at ~$8. That said, it was really good food and the layout was unique. It looks like a great place to bring a laptop and work for a few hours. It also is the only option for decent food in a four or five block radius, so I'm sure I'll go back
This has quickly become my favorite brunch spot it Cincy. It's location totally off the beaten path but still downtown (corner of cheapside and 8th!) make it the perfect place to walk to after a late night. If you want to impress a hip friend with aesthetic taste, hit Cheapside. Every little detail (from the teepee to the planters and napkin weights) is intentional and cohesive. I agree with Johanna, the chorizo egg is the move. Beware: they don't make just any old ice coffee, so be prepared for an Americana with tiny ice cubes.
