“where gravity works in reverse!”
A mysterious hill where gravity seems to pull up instead of down! Pull your car up to the conveniently marked start line and put it in neutral, then and take your foot off of the brake. Most cars would stay in place or simply roll downhill, but here, the cars begin to roll uphill until they reach the end line a little ways down the road. Most people say that this is an optical illusion and that the road merely appears to be sloping uphill while it is actually going downhill, but its elevation has been tested and the results prove that it is indeed an incline. Legend claims it's the result of otherworldly powers, caused by anything, from crashed school buses to murdered young girls. Legend says that if you place a light dusting of baby powder on the trunk of your car at midnight before rolling up the hill, you'll arrive at your destination stunned to find a dozen tiny handprints on your car... from the ghosts of children pushing you out of harms way. Spooky!
There are several spots like this in North Carolina. While the effect can be explained scientifically, the feeling is more than a little creepy. When I did one spot as research for my book, even though I knew I was coasting backwards down hill, it felt like I was going uphill. Just weird.
finally found it. It is about half a mile BEFORE the address given. When you see the tall barn, start looking for the Start spray painted on the road. Its a bit out in the middle of nowhere bt the drive is pretty thru the vineyards.
there is also one in Rockhampton QLD Australia, and it is a steep hill you go up, legends go that a man was driving out one nite and his car stalled at this part of the road which went over a drain, at the bottom of mountains, he got out to push his car of the road and was hit from behind by an oncoming car with no lights on, and if you car stalls on this part on the road he will push your car out of harms way, i have lived here my entire life and have done this drive many times and 8 out 10 times we have had big hand prints on the boot. i looked it up about the accident to see if a man really died there and to my horror it was true his car stalled and he got out to push it off the road and was struck from behind by a group of teens driving down mt archer ( a mountain with look outs and hiking tracks popular for teens being silly) with no lights on. however non believers say its a magnetic pull in the earths crust but we tried it on a motorbike and it doesn't work..
Off the road a bit but pretty scenery on the way. Look for the "start here" painted on the road.
The team of Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files, actually did an investigation into this type of thing and it turns out that the hill is actually sloped downward. The rest of the land is at an uphill angle so it makes it look like the road is too. And the bus being hit by a train story actually happened here in Utah...people need to wash their cars before they assume the handprints are paranormal.
Found it and the entire family loved it! You will come across a false start that doesn't work but continue on the road to the other side of the crest where there is another start line that works. We also had great burgers and service at TnT Burger Shack in Benton City.
Boo!!! there was no start line and couldnt find it
Wasn't worth our time off course. I felt like we were being pranked.
Definitely weird, but a long way off the highway. If you have extra time the drive is beautiful and takes you through vineyards and orchards.
Theres also an identical one in Florida-Physics, simply physics.
