“A beach with everything”
BREAKING NEWS: On January 10th, 2014, 500,000 people tweeted and shared an image of a ginormous, 160-ft beached squid. The creature of the deep allegedly washed up on a Santa Monica beach. Is it a radioactive sea monster or a hoax? Roadtrippers investigated and what we discovered will SHOCK you!
“Scientists believe that following the 2011 disaster at the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant an unknown number of sea creatures suffered genetic mutations that triggered uncontrolled growth – or ‘radioactive gigantism,’” the article said.
The article later states: “In a statement released to the media Gov. Jerry Brown assured local residents that the area is safe and it is ‘business as usual’ in Santa Monica. Gov. Brown indicated that plans to dismember the squid for transport to Scripps Research Institute “will not be delayed.’” The problem is, California Gov. Brown never released those statements.
It also quotes Santa Monica Parks Manager Cynthia Beard and Santa Marino College biology professor Martin L. Grimm, who are not real people. But it's only photoshop magic. So, if you see that picture in your timeline, just politely inform your friends no radioactive squid are washing up on California beaches. The real stuff that turns up in California is way scarier… Visiting Santa Monica beach? You can frolic on the sand in comfort and safety without fear of massive squids.
