  1. Lone Pine is a gateway to Mount Whitney, the highest summit in the contiguous United States and the Sierra Nevada, with an elevation of 14,505 feet.
  2. On March 16, 1872 at 2:30 am, Lone Pine experienced a violent earthquake that destroyed most of the town.At the time, the town consisted of 80 buildings made of mud and adobe, and only 20 structures were left standing.
  3. The Diaz Lake was formed as a result of the 1872 Lone Pine earthquake.
  4. Following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, President Roosevelt signed an executive order that required people of Japanese ancestry living along the Pacific coast to be placed into relocation camps. One of these camps, Manzanar, was built 7 miles north of Lone Pine.
  5. The Lone Pine Indian Reservation is home to Owens Valley Paiute and Shoshone members of the federally recognized tribe, the Paiute-Shoshone Indians of the Lone Pine Community of the Lone Pine Reservation.
