“Where Ian Fleming wrote all 14 James Bond books!”

What could possibly be better than spending a few days so deeply tucked away in a tropical paradise that you had to reach your cabin with a paddleboard? How about an island escape that's themed around James Bond? That magical land actually exists in the warm Caribbean waters of Jamaica, and it's just as incredible as it sounds.   The GoldenEye Resort and Spa in Orcabessa is a 52 acre resort situated on the north coast of Jamaica, and it's a place where you can escape to a neverending stream of rum cocktails, private beaches, and secluded villas. In fact, that's just what Ian Fleming did when he penned a whopping 14 James Bond books at this very resort.   In 1946, Fleming purchased the land, which was once a donkey track. He sketched out his dream home and went to work building an airy house that sits on a cliff overlooking the sea. Today, you can stay in that very same home. The three-bedroom Fleming House features a private swimming pool, its very own beach, a rain shower, and even the exact same desk where he wrote the famous James Bond books. It's easily the most private and luxurious villa on the island, but the rest of the resort is nothing to scoff at. Guests have their choice of a wide selection of villas, suites, and cabins, each of them with access to spa treatments, signature drinks at the seaside gazebo, as well as jet-skiing, horseback riding, snorkeling, deep-sea fishing (they'll cook your catches for you!) and some of the best paddleboarding you've ever experienced. As of that wasn't enough, a recent renovation by the current owner has given the resort a multimillion-dollar facelift that it didn't even need, adding an infinity pool and plenty of modern amenities. When Fleming originally established GoldenEye, it quickly became a gathering hub for the rich and famous, and much like the Fleming House, that hasn't changed. Don't be surprised if you run into Harrison Ford, Johnny Depp, Martha Stuart, or Bono while you're relaxing on the island. They're all regular guests, many of whom have taken part in Fleming's age-old tradition of planting fruit trees on the property. If you're so inclined, you can even pay a few bucks to do the same, the proceeds of which go toward the Oracabessa Foundation's island sustainability efforts. If you're looking for the perfect tropical escape on your next vacation, you can't go wrong with the GoldenEye resort, just remember, on this island, it's embarrassing to order those martinis any other than way than shaken, not stirred. -Roadtrippers What could possibly be better than spending a few days so deeply tucked away in a tropical paradise that you had to reach your cabin with a paddleboard?
