“Museum of wonderfully weird curiosities”

The idea behind the Seafoam Palace is to create a place that celebrates all things "fanatical and weird", and with a permanent collection of curious displays and anthropological artifacts, you’ll easily loose a afternoon exploring all of the strange exhibits.  Some of the museum's artifacts in question include, amazing finds discovered during urban exploration treks into Detroit’s abandoned buildings, tunnels, houses, and sewers. You'll also get to take part in ever changing workshops and events hosted by some of the most interesting people in Motor City.  The museum is located inside the amazing Sibley Building, which was abandoned for well over twenty-years, and was once part of the Frederic M. Sibley Lumber Company. The structure was built in 1925 and was registered as a National Historic Place in the early 90s, even though it sat empty and unused for years. The wood paneling and seafoam plaster work was the inspiration behind the museums name.  The creators behind Seafoam Palace raised twenty-three and a half thousand dollars, courtesy of a recient Kickstarter which helped the project go from an idea to a reality. Expect to see the Palace officially open its doors early 2015, as staff are busy renovating, painting, and preparing to make the Palace an awesome piece of must-visit Detroit. -Roadtrippers A museum that explores the nature of curiosity and wonder. As a modern 'Wunderkammer', the museum's exhibitions will encourage visitors to investigate their own sense of the marvelous while playing with the frontiers of art, science, history and adventure. What are the new outer realms from which we bring back our mysterious artifacts, what are the puzzles that enchant us? In addition to creative interpretations, the museum will offer workshops and programming to examine these ideas in media such as photography, audio and publishing. The museum building is on the National Register of Historic Places on Detroit's east side. Fundraising activities are currently underway to complete renovations; we hope to be open to the public by early 2015. Please check back soon for more information!
