“rumored to be haunted by Giles Corey”
The Howard Street Cemetery is located on Howard Street in Salem, Massachusetts (Essex County). The Howard Street Cemetery is located beside the old Salem jail. It is filled with many old gravestones, and the majority are in great shape. The grounds are very well maintained by the city. The Howard Street Cemetery is also rumored to be haunted. Giles Corey, who was accused of practicing witchcraft, was crushed to death in the alley beside the cemetery. The sheriff piled rocks on his chest to try and make him admit he was a witch. Giles Corey never admitted that he was a witch, and with his last breath he put a curse on the town. Today many people claim to see his ghost floating through the cemetery, and others have felt a cold hand touch them while walking there.
Let's put it like this: He was crushed near the cemetery. His body was never moved. As he lay dying, he cursed the town's sheriff and all of Salem. When people see him, it is before tragedy. Also, The Howard Street Cemetery is beginning to cave in around the catacombs in the graveyard.
