Your guide to all places other‑worldly, haunted, and just plain weird.
It's a cat lady's dream! An entire island of fluffy, meowing, purr machines as far as the eye can see. Tashirojima is an amazing Japanese island, nicknamed Cat Island, and is home to 100 human inhabitant caretakers, and more than four times that in feline population.
The thriving stray cat community is partly due to the neighborly human slaves keepers, who feed and care for the clowder of furballs, as they believe the cats bring luck and fortune. The island even has a 'Neko-Jinja', a cat shrine dedicated entirely to the whiskered hoard.
The only rule on the island is there are absolutely no dogs allowed, not even just to visit, and for obvious reasons, this rule keeps the island kitties happy.
