“raw materials for creative living”
Walking into Austin, Texas' Uncommon Objects is like walking into a living, breathing piece of art. The antique store, which specializes in strange and uncommon treasures, is more like an art gallery filled with drool-worthy collectables and design ideas rather than a stuffy old antique store... basically it's your grandma's house on steroids. Uncommon OBJECTS was created in 1991 by Steve Wiman and Ed Gage, and grew from having only 5 dealers to 24 of the city's best. It’s become one of the most loved stores in the Austin, and an absolute antique Mecca for anyone who swoons over well-loved, strange, and downright weird collectables. The store is so beautiful many people just come to poke around, but find it impossible not to leave with some kind of wonderful treasure tucked under their arm. The exhibits are so ornate and detailed it’s easy to spend a few hours wandering around the dreamy displays. Taxidermy, antique glassware, furniture, jewelry, paintings, and kitsch as far as the eye can see. Uncommon Objects definitely helps strengthen the city motto of Keeping Austin Weird, and its location on South Congress makes it an easy find for anyone visiting the city and looking to do a little sight seeing. If you’re visiting Austin, and you want to experience a little homegrown weird, grab a latte and head to South Congress to spend an hour exploring all the wonderful treasures hidden at Uncommon Objects. Established in 1991 as a small antique collective, Uncommon Objects has matured over the years into the one-of-a-kind emporium of transcendent junk that you see before you. Twenty hardworking antique sellers have been assembled under one roof to bring you this very genuine and sometimes quirky slice of American culture and history. Uncommon Objects has been described as "your eccentric uncle's attic on steroids." And remember, this is no museum. This stuff is for sale. As the ultimate "green" shopping experience, there is something to satisfy your nostalgic yearnings and peak your sentimental curiosities.
