“Attractions & Culture in NC”

Everyone knows that if you're looking for the Fountain of Youth you go to De Leon Springs, Florida, home of what is supposed to be the legendary magical spring. Well, there's another, lesser-known spring right here in America that you might not know about... and this one has magic powers too. Well, kind of.  God's Acre Healing Spring is a natural spring deep in South Carolina that's been a part of local legend since the Revolutionary War. Now, when you first see it, you'd never think it was anything other than a boring old water fountain, but according to the legends, it's anything but. According to the legend, four gravely-wounded British soldiers were found wandering the woods after the Battle of Windy Hill Creek. A group of Native Americans came across the men on the brink of death and took them to the spring. Amazingly, after drinking the water, all of the men made a full recovery and after only a few months, and walked back into their camp as if nothing had happened at all. The Natives gave all the credit to the Healing Well. Over the years, the supposedly sacred land and mineral well have passed to many people, at least until 1944 when the owner, Mr. Boyston, deeded the land to God. Nope I'm not kidding. He did so, however, so that anyone in need of healing, either from a paper cut to a open wound, could grab a drink at the amazing healing well and be cured from all their ails. Now we don't recommend a trip to the spring if where you really should be heading is to the hospital, of course, but God's Acre Healing Springs is an awesome local legend that is still alive and well today. If you're in the area, taking a sip couldn't hurt. Right? -Roadtrippers God's Acre also refers to a small patch of land whose legal owner is "God Almighty". The land includes a natural spring whose water local tradition holds has healing powers. Located near Blackville, South Carolina, the land was owned by L. P. "Lute" Boylston until 1944 when he died. In his will, Boylston gave the land to "God Almighty" to ensure that the water from its spring would always be free for anyone to drink. It can be found just off SC 3; look for signs three miles north of Blackville. Coordinates: 33.392160, -81.273276 The Springs are listed as part of the South Carolina National Heritage Corridor.

Such a unique free attraction. You can park right next to it. The water tastes amazing and it was a nice place to take a break. Up the road there is a gift shop with a bathroom.

Cute spot to hop out and stretch. We parked at the church and walked down a small road to the site, which is at the entrance to the woods. You could certainly park down there as it's a very quiet road, but we liked the short stroll. Bring bug spray! Lots of still water/marshy area. Also lots of signs explaining the history.
