“Quality meets value in Lodi”
Macchia Wines is known for excellent quality at exceptional values. Although located in Lodi, many of the winery’s grapes are sourced from Amador County vineyards in the Sierra Foothills.Tim and Lani Holdener buy many of their Zinfandel grapes from, “The original Grand Pere Vineyard.” At over 140 years old, these vines may well be the oldest that are still producing wine in California. Macchia also gets some Zinfandel and Barbera from Linsteadt Vineyard, another Amador County property. The 2004 Zinfandel “Luxurious” is made from old vines grown on Rous Vineyard in the Lodi AVA. This is a fruit forward wine that was aged in French and American oak barrels before bottling. It has fairly moderate alcohol at 14.5%, and costing only $20, it is a very good value.Macchia’s 2005 Zinfandel “Generous” is made from 91 year old vines that are head trained in the traditional fashion. This wine is a bit more floral on the nose than “Luxurious,” and has velvety tannins.
