“An integral part of the Brew Ridge Trail”
The Blue Mountain Brewery in Afton, Virginia is a micro-brewery which forms, along with Starr Hill Brewery, South Street Brewery and Devils Backbone Brewing Company, an integral part of the Brew Ridge Trail. Blue Mountain was the first brewery to open in Nelson County. They cultivate 1/3 acre of mainly Cascade-variety hops. One of their seasonal beers, Blue Reserve, took home the first-ever medal (Silver) for a beer hopped solely with Virginia hops at the world's largest beer competition, the Great American Beer Festival, in 2011 for the American-Belgo Ale category. Blue Mountain is also the only Virginia brewery to hold back-to-back Gold medals at the 2010 and 2011 Great American Beer Festival. In 2012, a new sister brewery, Blue Mountain Barrel House, was opened by two of the founders of the original Blue Mountain Brewery.
Sorry, meant to finish my review by saying I'm giving it a 3/5 because the gluten-free roll wasn't very good and I was not. A huge fan of the potato salad. My fiancé enjoyed his Cuban sandwich but the pretzel was nothing to write home about.
Stopped here for lunch on the way to Texas. I had the classic cheese burger on a gluten-free roll with a potato salad on the side. My fiancé had the pretzel with mustard and cheese sauce for an app and the creole Cuban press sandwich. He also drank the Hopwork Orange brew. Overall the food was good, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The area is beautiful and we sat outside on the patio.
after traveling 4 hours to do a brewery tour disappointed that the tours are only on Saturdays. Had planned trip through roadtrippers.com and chose the Blue Mountain Brewery as a stop to do a tour. I visited the Afton website. When arriving at the Brewery was told that the tours are only on Saturdays which is not what the website had stated. Spoke to manager Christina leaving there even more disappointed then no tours. Food was good, service was fair. Customer service needs some work.
Love their food love their beer love BMB! Their pizza is amazing!
