“in the heart of Nelson County”
Located in the heart of Nelson County wine country, Flying Fox Vineyard is a small, family-run winery, owned and run by Lynn Davis and Rich Evans. After many years of growing grapes we recently made the leap and started producing our own wines. We invite you to come by and taste our limited production wines including Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Viognier and Pinot Gris. A winter fireplace and summer patio will encourage you to linger a while at Flying Fox as you travel down Nelson 151. Blue RidgeOur vineyard is six and a half acres, planted to red varieties. The Merlot and Cabernet Franc are trained to a Smart-Dyson trellis and the Petit Verdot is on VSP (vertically shoot positioned) trellis. We both love spending time working in the vineyard. It is peaceful, methodical work in a beautiful setting. Watching the vines come back to life in the spring, the trunks a little bigger and more gnarled each year, the rapid growth of the leaf canopy and finally ripening of the grapes and harvest, have come to define our year. We have enticed family members Jane and Jon Zieman to join the viticulture community in Virginia and they now grow our Viognier and Pinot Gris grapes at Ridge Run Vineyard in Stuart’s Draft.
