The Rio Grande Botanic Garden at the ABQ BioPark is located on 52 acres of land, nestled between the Rio Grande River and the Albuquerque Aquarium. It includes a 10,000 square-foot glass conservatory, a 10-acre Heritage Farm, the PNM Butterfly Pavilion, a Japanese Garden, a model train display, and a whimsical Children’s Fantasy Garden. The Botanic Garden embraces the BioPark’s mission to demonstrate and celebrate the horticultural and agricultural traditions of the Rio Grande Valley. It opened to the public on December 5, 1996.
GREAT stop!!! The gardens here were so much better than we expected! The walking paths through it were very well done. There were paved, gravel, and dirt trails with plants from different areas and climates. Our favorite sections were the Japanese Garden and the Fantasy Garden. The Japanese Garden was SO beautiful!!! And the Fantasy Garden was just neat and the kids had a blast going through it! Oh and the train! They had a large G-Scale train near the Fantasy Garden that was really neat! We planned an hour and a half here and ended up taking about two and a half instead, and that was with jogging through part of it because a storm was coming in! Totally worth it!
