“lakeshore love!”

Canyon Lake is one of four reservoirs that were formed by the damming of the Salt River in the U.S. state of Arizona. The lake was formed by the Mormon Flat Dam, which was completed in 1925 after two years of construction. Canyon Lake, with a surface area of 950 acres (380 ha), is the third and smallest of four lakes created along the Salt River. Two others, Apache Lake and Roosevelt Lake, are upstream. The fourth, Saguaro Lake, is downstream. Canyon Lake lies approximately 15 miles (24 km) up the Apache Trail from Apache Junction, Arizona and 51 miles (82 km) east of Phoenix. It is within the Superstition Wilderness of Tonto National Forest and is a popular recreation area for the Phoenix metropolitan area. Recreation amenities include hiking trails, camping, and boating, all managed by the United States Forest Service. Canyon Lake is a popular stop along the Apache Trail route from Apache Junction, Arizona, passing Tortilla Flat, Arizona, before reaching Apache Lake and Roosevelt Lake behind Theodore Roosevelt Dam.

Back into your space and if you have rear windows the view is great. A couple of spaces are parallel to the lake for side viewing. All spaces have a barbecue, fire ring, picnic table, 30 amp, 15 amp and water hookups. A row of trees runs the length of the gravel spaces for good shade and there are a number of trees in the green area as well.
The spaces are just wide enough for slide outs and awnings but the (mostly) green space between you and the lake is very deep. Plenty of room for games and for the kids to run around.
There is a nice marina with boat and kayak rentals. Small store and a restaurant that has limited hours.

Negatives, for us, the price is very high unless your into boating as you can park your boat behind your camp site on the shoreline (75 - 90 feet away). The spaces are narrower than we like and though the gravel is pretty level it's not paved. Our electric pillar needed some work. The 30 amp plug was loose and the 15 amp plug was broken. The bottom of our barbecue was rusted through in several places.
Lots of flies to the point that we spent more time than normal inside our RV. Also be aware that there are a couple of skunks that scavenge after dark. A couple of dogs down the way from us that were not on leashes got sprayed one night.

Though it's not the RV parks fault the road to the Canyon Lake, Apache Trail, has needed to be resurfaced for several years. It is a very bumpy ride when you get into the mountains.

Because of the location and proximity to where we live we will be back to this campground.

We love the Canyon Lake area, so we naturally enjoyed our stay at this park. The RV sites back right up to the lake, with each site having a fire pit and table setup. We used a water/electric hookup and had no issues with either.

The RV sites were a bit close together, which I understand they are trying to make the most of their waterfront property but would have been nice to have a bit more space. Was a pretty big area, I'd say they can easily fit 50+ RVs here, if not more. Seemed like mostly travel trailers, but we did see a few Class A's as well for folks with bigger rigs.

They stock the lake fairly frequently for any anglers out there. Their is a little bar/restaurant area. You can take a steamboat Ride, which we took a pass on, but folks were lined up for them so seemed potentially worth doing.

All & all we paid just under $100 for two nights, with our Good Sam discount. Bathrooms were clean, everything seemed to work fine. Felt jammed in to our space, and surround by other campers, but you are right next to the lake, which was pretty awesome.

the location is good, on the water.
there is no dump-station and you can't really dump your grey water anywhere either. this is not the campgrounds fault due to location, but this will limit the ability to stay longer (not that I would recommend anything past 2 nights)
it is on an extended network, and you will get 3-4MBPS on a WEEKDAY. on the weekend the internet stops working.
overall I would come again here, due to pretty are and proximity to the water

Campground was quite empty when we stayed. Nice, spacious and level sites. Great proximity to Canyon Lake for fishing and swimming. Campfires were allowed but no firewood for sale. The only reason we didn’t give it 5 stars was the bathhouse situation. Only outhouses provided and a trailer for showers. For the price we would have expected more. All in all a great stay.

Really relaxing, beautiful spot. The water is a godsend in the heat. We didn’t have a boat so didn’t get a chance to explore the whole lake but it looks like a great spot to boat. Take your time on the drive in and out. The road is wickedly curvy.
