“Pecan Crusted Grouper and the Paella”
Founder Tamara Suarez's daughter, Marisa Getter, and her husband, Danny Itzkovitz, renovated the 1920-era historic building, the former offices of Prudential Resort Realty, with its stamped tin ceiling, original brick walls and fresh bright color scheme. The dining room, which seats 60, features a raised front section, where patrons can see and be seen through the full-length front windows that offer them a wide-angled view of the center of downtown. The menu hasn't changed a great deal, and remains a blend of Tamara's originals like the Pecan Crusted Grouper and the Paella with new additions by Itzkovitz, former chef at The Soup kitchen in Savannah, Georgia. His new sidekick, Chef James Ponder, has been at Tamara's about a year, after honing his skills at Cool Beanz, Mozaiac, and most recently as executive chef at Wildwood in Crawfordville. Marisa enjoys making lunch specials like Champandongo (Mexican lasagna).
The prices online are incorrect. It said the grouper lunch sandwich was 11 but it was 20. I ordered at 211 for takeout and got it at 305. The fish was squishy. The house ships are served out of an open tub at the bar. Not fresh. The kids chicken tenders were spicy. I had high hopes but this place was terrible.
