Welcome to Baine's Books and Coffee.  We are an independent, locally-owned, community bookstore and coffee shop located in the historic district of Appomattox, Virginia.  We have a unique collection of books, music, film, pottery, musical instruments, food, and drink that  fit our community and region.  Our business strategy has been to build the store we would like to hang out in.  Now in our seventh year it seems there must have been  more of us out there than we thought.  Come listen to live music, drop by for lunch, or get us to search for a rare book for you.  If you live far away, you should know that Appomattox is a great little town to spend the weekend. Baine's carries a wide variety of acoustic musical instruments.  We have always been a great source for guitar strings and accessories.  We now stock Takamine Jasmine Guitars, Lanikai Ukuleles, Hohner accordians, concertinas, melodicas, and harmonicas, hand percussion by Latin Percussion, Rhythm Tech, and Toca,  violins, mandolins, banjos, dulcimers, recorders, bodhrans, tin whistles, bagpipes and more.  You will find our prices very competitive, even with the big on-line warehouses. From the start we wanted to be the headquarters for the local acoustic music scene.  In seven years we have hosted over 1,156 nights of live music. Every Thursday is open mic night.  Every first Sunday of the month we host a jazz lunch.   We have live acoustic music every Friday and Saturday night.  Styles include bluegrass, folk, Americana, old-time, Celtic, blues, country, gospel, and jazz.  Our venue has a comfortable listening room atmosphere that is smoke and alcohol free.  Check out our calendar to the left. We carry all types of used and new books.  Our used books are reasonably priced and well organized.  You can bring in your old books and exchange them for trade credit to spend on other used books.  We stock new books in subject areas that fit the community and our personal interests.  We specialize in The Civil War, The American South, Classics, Shakespeare, Poetry, Art, Film, Outdoor Skills, Children's Classics, Music, Historic Preservation, Architecture, Maritime, Mythology/Folklore, Celtic, Native American, C.S. Lewis, and Local Author/Interest.  We also keep a revolving stock of hand-picked budget books at steeply discounted prices.  We special order books, in or out of print, every day.
