I stayed here a few months ago with my (now ex) boyfriend for the Rangers / Capitals game. We drove from Virginia Beach just for the night as part of his Valentine's gift, but to be honest, I still don't know how I feel about this hotel.

The location is about a $10 Uber / Lyft ride to the Verizon Center, which is great, but you better hope either yourself or your driver knows the area because getting in and out of the hotel is pretty confusing (both ourselves and our drivers got lost). Obviously location is a little out of their control and in the end it was relatively close to where we needed to go, so that didn't really affect my uncertainty about the overall experience.

What really annoyed me was the customer service during check in. When I checked into my room, I was given absolutely NO information... at all. I had no idea when check out was, what amenities were on property, or what to do about parking. When I asked how much parking was, I was told it was $24, or $15 if I became an SPG member. What I think is hilarious (in a not-so-funny way) is that I STILL have no idea what that even means. Of course I said sure because it saved me money... but what even is an SPG member?! She then told me where my room was but when I asked her to repeat the location, she seemed less than thrilled. I asked her a few questions about getting to the Verizon Center and she was pleasant enough, but definitely did not go "above and beyond" to assist me. Then when I got to my room and saw that there were 2 double beds for myself and my boyfriend, I called the front desk to see if they had a single room available for us. Literally... LITERALLY in the middle of my sentence the gentleman on the phone interrupted me to say they were sold out. When I told him that I hadn't even finished my question yet... he interrupted me again, so I hung up. I understand check in times can be hectic (although I was the only one at the desk), but I have been a manager at both full service and limited service hotels and would expect MUCH more of my employees.

The hotel was beautiful, I will give it that. But the beds... not comfortable at all. The sheets are not soft in any way and the cover to the mattress kept coming off during the night. I was woken probably at least 5 times to the sound of doors closing in the hallway. The bathrooms were very tiny and cramped as well, making for a not-so-relaxing bath. And my view of what appeared to be the ghetto was less than scenic. Obviously bed preferences vary from person to person and noise is hard to control sometimes (especially on a Friday night in a big city), so I'm sure some people find the beds to be perfectly fine. Perhaps if my boyfriend and I weren't sharing a double bed it would have been more comfortable, but in the end I should have made sure to book a single to begin with.

To give the hotel it's props, I will say that the gentleman I spoke with on the phone to ask about check out and the woman who checked me out were MUCH more pleasant and helpful than when I checked in. They were very attentive and pleasant to deal with. The decor of the hotel was charming and although I did not get to see the conference space, it looked like it would be very elegant as well.

Overall what confuses me is the complete 180 in customer service from one day to the next and also the beautiful appearance versus the uncomfortableness of the beds. The hotel looks like it has a lot to offer (although I still don't know what all that is) so I think perhaps if I stay again in the future and research the hotel on my own I'll have a better experience.
