Iconic Attraction

Our Take

There’s no bad time to visit. Winter means the famous Christmas decor is up (and Christmas pricing is in effect), but autumn brings stunning foliage and during the spring the gardens are in full bloom. You don’t need a tour to appreciate how massive and grand the house, grounds, and furnishings are. However you choose to visit, don’t miss the pool, the ballrooms, and the conservatory.

George Vanderbilt created Biltmore as an escape from everyday life. Now, you are invited to explore that escape for yourself. A visit to the 8,000-acre estate in the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina provides limitless fun. Welcome and thank you for your interest in Biltmore. What began in 1895 as my great-grandfather's estate continues to be an amazing experience for today's visitors. At its core, Biltmore will always have the natural beauty of the mountains as well as the majestic house and gardens to inspire us and allow us to escape from the every day. Biltmore is still family-owned, and we are passionate about our mission of preservation through self-sufficiency—a philosophy embraced before the first stone was ever put in place. We remain self-sustaining through innovation, creative thinking, and listening to our guests who continue to tell us they want more ways to connect with Biltmore. Wine was our first foray into offering a taste of Biltmore. Now, you can experience life as a Vanderbilt guest at our Inn on Biltmore Estate. You can also inspire your own surroundings with a line of home furnishings, decorative accessories, home building products, and live plants. And so, full circle, we're all about home—welcoming and celebrating family and friends—and extending the spirit of Biltmore beyond our 8,000 acres. It was true in 1895 and it remains true today.

The Biltmore was used for Richie Rich's house and as a kid moving to Asheville, I was so excited to tour his place. A few years down the road, I worked for a wedding planner and saw a lot of gorgeous weddings take place both at the Estate house and the Inn. The wine tasting at their winery is fun and I highly recommend doing a candlelit tour during Christmas here, so beautiful! A must see when visiting Asheville.

Very expensive for a self guided tour. Can't even see the the outside of house or go to the vineyard to buy some wine unless you pay $59 a person to go through the gates. They do offer a $10 military discount.

We spent a wonderful few hours touring this magnificent estate. I consider this a must do when visiting Asheville. Be sure to get the audio tour when you purchase your tickets as it is a headphone set that describes each room as you walk through the house.

The Biltmore Estate is such a surreal place to visit, the house and the grounds are absolutely beautiful and getting a tour is worth it to hear all about the history of this place. It's also massive so don't expect to tour the entire thing in a couple of hours, if you want to really dig in you should expect to spend the whole day here.

Beautiful! Especially in spring when flowers are in bloom. A full day. (Easy) hiking trails. Much to photograph. Not an inexpensive day, but if it's a busy day, splurge for the 'premium tasting' if you do the winery. The lines for complimentary on a busy day get quite long.

You have to be as rich as a Vanderbilt to afford a visit!

We enjoyed visiting the Biltmore Estate. It is quite pricey at $110 pp. for the self-guided tour, visiting the gardens and enjoying the free wine-tasting in Antler Hill village. This was a spur of the moment stop for us. We arrived at 12:30 and our house tour was scheduled for 4:15. There is a limited number of tickets. On a busy day you may need to get there way before 12:30; we suggest you buy the tickets online. You also have to set an appointment for the winery online as well. They don't take walk-ups. Once we received our timed ticket, we immediately went online and was able to get a winery appointment at 1:15. If you're going to the village, you should give yourself about 35 to 45 minutes to get to/from the house. The gardens were just starting to bloom with Spring tulips. The house tour took about 1 1/2 hours. There are stairs for the upper floors. Don't know if the elevator was available. We were quite surprised it took that long, but we did thoroughly enjoy the tour. You could spend all day there with the village down the road. We left the property about 6:00pm.

The whole family loved this! Go to the bathroom before taking the tour of the house. I regret not doing the audio tours for my family, including the kid’s version for my 6 y/o. However, my 9y/o was really into reading the guide and being our tour guide.

The gardens were great and the Chihuly exhibits were a favorite photography subject of young and old(er). I am so glad I gave my kids the camera for a bit. We took about three hours, but if I had planned it a bit better (bathrooms before tour, purchased audio tour, packed lunch), we could have spent 4-5 hours there.

We visited the Estate when the "Downton Abbey" wardrobe was on display. It was fascinating to see the parallels between my favorite series and this real life estate. The clothes were an interesting touch adding to the already fascinating surroundings. There were audio tours available, but we just read the free booklet along the way and learned plenty about the estate and family. The staff were readily available to answer questions along the way. There was an adorable restraint in what used to be the stable. Good food, but pricey. The gift shop was adorable and had a wide variety of gifts and souvenirs. My only complaint was that it wasn't very kid, friendly for my 6 year old - but I expected that. I think kids would be much more engaged with an actual tour guide. If you plan on taking your children, even older kids, pay the extra money for the guided tour. Expect to spend most of the day here. Also, you can't photograph inside the building, even with your cell phone. The close-by Biltmore Park offers great shopping and dinner after you leave!

Was a little pricey but was worth it! The house left me speechless and my husband mind was blow with all the detail. GET THE AUDIO TOUR! There were no signs explaining anything and the people working there would talk a little about the house but we did the first few rooms with out the audio and turned around to get one after that. Over all a wonderful experience and don't forget to go and try their wines :)
