In our small factory in the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina, we roast, crack, winnow, grind, conche and temper chocolate in small batches. By directly importing fine flavor cacao from small farmers, we create a deeper connection to the source. We summon the food geek within to elicit the best flavors each bean has to offer. We do all of this because we seek a closer relationship with our food, and we want to share it with you.
If you go by this place and you see the line go out the door and around the corner, and think you should skip this place, DO NOT!!!!!! There is a reason people wait in line. Think of it as standing in line at an amusement park to get on the "Chocolate Ride". IT IS SO TOTALLY WORTH IT if you are crazy about chocolate. Get the LIQUID TRUFFLE. GET IT! STAND IN LINE FOR AN HOUR FOR IT!!! Your taste buds will thank you for the rest of your life.

Jael and Dan Rattigan started French Broad Chocolates out of their Asheville home before opening this downtown retail space and chocolate factory. The couple makes a dizzying array of chocolate products, from gooey truffles and caramels to their own bittersweet, high-percentage cacao bars. (They also sell chocolates from other producers, including Brooklyn's Mast Brothers.) The lounge is a relaxing place to enjoy a frothy hot cocoa or a Spicy Nibby chocolate brownie made with bittersweet chocolate and searing cayenne pepper.
