“Southern classics with a twist”
Tupelo Honey Cafe reveres the time-honored traditions of the Southern cook, but you will find our take on the Southern plate to be a little different. That's because at Tupelo Honey Cafe, we believe in the spirit of coloring outside the lines. Our transformation of just about everything Southern - from fried chicken to sweet potatoes to catfish - is decidedly spirited, independent, and frequently unscripted. We honor local farmers and fresh produce. We keep our larder filled with creative, scratch-made goodness. And we strive to deliver a 10 on our scale of Full-Flavored-Awesomeness, along with several heaping helpings of fun. We want you to come back for seconds, after all. Time and time again.
We decided to eat here our first night in Asheville. They had a casual atmosphere and were family friendly, which was a plus when traveling with a three year old in tow. My husband ordered the meatloaf which promptly disappeared from his plate. I had the BBQ plate with goat cheese grits and fried okra. It was delish.... But the best part was the pecan pie a la mode! Great service and great food!
Tupelo is so great, they're now expanding across the state! Their entire menu is Asheville's take on Southern food. If you're looking for breakfast, their sweet potato pancakes are the best, and their Charleston Chicken sandwich is good for lunch or dinner.
Casual atmosphere, great southern cuisine, and wonderful service. If you go here without trying the fried okra, you're missing out.
Delicious! When shrimp met taco is a great choice !!
You can't go wrong with pancakes or a biscuit topped with tupelo honey!
You can't go wrong with Tupelo Honey's pancakes!
The sweet potato pancakes are worth the trip alone! The biscuits and blueberry jam are also excellent! I have been here more than once and have always had a great experience!
Upon initial entry the place looked great and the wait was not too bad. We choose to eat at the counter because there was no wait. If you are into deep fried foods then this is probably your place. For health reasons, I have changed my lifestyle. My wife and I managed to find something on the menu. I went simple and just had the Tupelo salad with basal vinaigrette. I've never had any vinegarette that was so thick it would not pour even upside down. I am not sure where watching food prepared by the staff went wrong for me but it definitely did when one of the main preparers grabbed there sleeve with their hand and sneezed into the hand / shirt. Then turns around and grabs a piece of chicken with the same hand and puts it Ina bun. No hand washing!! Also something did not sit well with my wife, she ended up with major indigestion. We had to stop several times on the way home. We will not be back.
Amazing! I'm so glad they are opening new restaurants so we have more opportunities to go! Make sure you plan for a wait time before you are able to be seated.
