“an icon on the horizon”

Ascending to 14,410 feet above sea level, Mount Rainier stands as an icon in the Washington landscape. An active volcano, Mount Rainier is the most glaciated peak in the contiguous U.S.A., spawning six major rivers. Subalpine wildflower meadows ring the icy volcano while ancient forest cloaks Mount Rainier’s lower slopes. Wildlife abounds in the park’s ecosystems. A lifetime of discovery awaits.

In the early 1930s the Civilian Conservation Corp constructed fire lookouts throughout the park to help protect the surrounding area from fire. Four historic lookouts still remain in the Mount Rainier National Historic Landmark District including Tolmie, Shriner, Fremont, and Gobblers Knob.

Mount Rainier National Park is a United States National Park located in southeast Pierce County and northeast Lewis County in Washington state. It was one of the US's earliest National Parks, having been established on March 2, 1899 as the fifth national park in the United States.

Every year we go to Paradise or other places in Mount Rainier National Park with our church members. It's awesome place; you can do hiking there for a whole day. You can start you r hike during hot weather but at the top you will see snow and will be able to play on it with kids.

Really good place.

Mount Rainier is one of my all time favourite mountain/wilderness areas! Right from the moment you enter the park (through a big stone gate) you are deep into forest territory and have a really nice drive until you are all of a sudden exposed to the great site that is Mt. Rainier itself! Once you get closer you will realize that its not only the mountain.. but the surrounding area and canyons that are just as breathetaking as the mountain itself!

ProTip: Come during the right time of year (mid July) to see the Lupines in full blossom!

Wow! We had the opportunity to visit last July. The day we went was misty and it appeared that the mountain would be hiding in the clouds for the day. We started our hike up enjoying the things we could see in the close distance. As we climbed higher, small, blue patches of sky began to emerge. We kept climbing, the sky got bluer. All of a sudden there was a fleeting glimpse of "his royal majesty". We kept going. So glad we did as we finally emerged above the clouds to see this beautiful mountain standing before us. It was an amazing view. What an experience!

This place is a must see for any outdoor lover, it is just spectacular and has never been as crowded as the other national parks when I have been.

This a no brainer; definitely go here. We went to Paradise, where it's said that's where you want to go to see meadows of wildflowers, but of course they were already dead (early October..). It was beautiful nonetheless. It was cool to hear distant rumbling from Mt. Rainer.

Hands down the most challenging and breathtaking thing I've ever done was summiting this mountain. The mountain looms over Seattle. The park itself is gorgeous, with plenty of greens and whites. Even if you're not climbing it, this mountain is must-visit for any nature-lover.
