“Awesome Monument & View!”

The Astoria Column was erected in 1926 at an elevation of 600 feet atop Coxcomb Hill, the location of the first permanent American Settlement west of the Rockies. Take the time to climb the 164-step spiral staircase to the viewing deck at the top. For indulging in the challenge, you will be greeted by an unforgettable view of the city and surrounding rivers, bay, forest, mountains and Pacific Ocean. And don't forget to purchase a wooden glider at the visitor center (proceeds go to the Column) and watch it soar high above the city...it will rekindle the child in you!

Column was closed so we didn’t get to climb it, but it was still cool and worth seeing from the outside. Hard to imagine that the view could have been better from up top than what you could see from the parking lot. Amazing views!!

Just ok. $5 per car entry fee. Beautiful, wonderful views from the parking lot. It's got a couple of picnic tables and a gift shop The tower itself is free to enter, and it's a grueling 165+ steps to the top, where you enjoy....essentially the exact same beautiful views that you get from the parking lot. The tower inside is dark, cramped, dizzying, and full of scared and crying people (children and adults alike were having panic attacks) I would say come enjoy the view, but skip climbing the tower. It's really not worth it.

Our family loved visiting the Astoria Column! This was a perfect stop during our trip. There is a lot of beautiful detail in the design of the column and it was greatly appreciated. The column was open to the public and we were able to climb to the top and enjoy the outstanding views. There are quite a few steps to the top, but they do provide small areas to rest during the climb. The payoff at the top was definitely worth it! You will be able to see the Lewis & Clark River, Young's River, and the mighty Columbia River along with the beautiful Astoria-Megler Bridge! The park staff working were such nice people. Be sure to stop by and say hi to Fred for me! He gave us some good information on the surrounding area. Enjoy!

Very awesome view. It is $5 to enter but it’s worth it. The view is amazing. The column is not open. But still a neat experience.

We enjoyed the views from the column. $5 parking which is good for the year (still not bad if you only visit once). Yes, there are many stairs to the top but if you’re there, you should go ahead and enjoy the experience. Very busy when we visited in July 2019. I overheard someone say a cruise ship was in town which explains the bus loads of people.

Amazingly stunning view loved looking at all the breathtaking art.the walk up the stairs is a little rough but well worth the experience that you get when you get to the top. Would definitely recommend to come here I plan on coming here again sometime. forgot to buy my little glider so next time I have to grab one of those and fly from the top.
