“Awesome Monument & View!”
Astoria Scuba and Kayak, a full service facility at the Mouth of the Columbia River
Be prepared for stairs and a ton of wind! That being said the view... Breathtaking
Very windy $5 to park stairs are tough but quick, beautiful view
Under restoration all summer but still worth the drive up just for the view!
The Astoria Column was erected in 1926 at an elevation of 600 feet atop Coxcomb Hill, the location of the first permanent American Settlement west of the Rockies. Editor’s Tip: Take the time to climb the 164-step spiral staircase to the viewing deck at the top. For indulging in the challenge, you will be greeted by an unforgettable view of the city and surrounding rivers, bay, forest, mountains and Pacific Ocean. And don’t forget to purchase a wooden glider at the visitor center (proceeds go to the Column) and watch it soar high above the city...it will rekindle the child in you!
Column is currently under restorations and covered with traps. View is awesome though. $2 parking.
The view at the top of the narrow spiral staircase of 164 stairs is absolutely breathtaking. Lots of wind!
The hike to the top of the tower is a hike but the view (when not foggy) is stunning and almost 360 degrees. Pro tip: Buy a plywood plane at the little shop at the bottom to throw of the top. A great photo op and lots of fun.
