“The world's largest Doomsday shelter”

Vivos, also known as The Vivos Group, is a California-based company founded by Robert Vicino that is building a network of hardened underground shelters designed to withstand future disasters and life-extinction catastrophes. The shelters are reportedly able to withstand a 20 megaton nuclear blast and operate autonomously for six months to one year. A bunker in California "was built to withstand a 50-megaton nuclear blast 10 miles away, 450mph winds, a magnitude-10 earthquake, 10 days of 1,250°F surface fires, and three weeks beneath any flood." Planned Vivos facilities vary in size, accommodating up to 1,000 people, and are to be buried in undisclosed locations across the United States, as well as Europe, South America, and Australia. The projected total cost of each bunker varies, typically between $6 million and $20 million. The first completed shelter is located in Indiana. At complete build out, the company plans to accommodate 6,000 people (about 1 in 1,000,000 people on Earth). The project also includes a "Cryovault" that will maintain freezers preserving reproductive gamete cells and DNA of humans and animals for a potential re-population of the Earth. Each shelter will be equipped with enough food, clothing, medicine, fuel, water and survival gear for one whole year. In 2013 it acquired a large portion of the 2.7 million square foot Atchison Storage Facility which it says it is converting to the "world's largest doomsday shelter" in a space that handle RV's. Potential members are reviewed and screened by a "Selection Committee" based on their skills and ability to contribute to the shelter community. As of November 2012, about 25,000 people have applied for a space in the shelters. Originally focusing on "Luxury Class" community shelters, the company has more recently expanded into "Economy class" community shelters and "Private" single family modular bunkers. In the summer of 2012, casting calls went out for a new Spike TV show, originally set for airing fall 2012, the Last Family on Earth, which was to feature six families competing for "ownership interests in a community-owned, underground Luxury Class Shelter provided by The Vivos Group."
