“a symbol of stability and justice for over 100 years!”
The museum presents an overview of Placer County history from the early Nisenan inhabitants through the latter half of the 20th century. It also includes the renowned Pate Collection of Native American artifacts and the original Thomas Kinkade painting “Auburn Centennial”.One of our most popular exhibits is the 194 ounces of gold which make up the Placer County Gold Collection. Mined from Placer County soil, this assortment of gold in its raw state is a wonderful example of the mineral wealth that drew people here from around the world.Sheriff Elmer Gum’s Office occupies the same room as it originally did in the 1920s. Furnished with artifacts from that era, walking through the door is a step back in time.
