“The beautiful farm home of George Walton”
Meadow Garden is one of Georgia's oldest dwellings. The National Historic Landmark is a quiet and inviting oasis in the midst of the industrialized city of Augusta, Georgia. Come and visit this beautiful treasure! Guided tours are available five days a week. The home features 18th and 19th Century American and English furnishings, porcelains, paintings and primitive household equipment. On April 13, 2004, DAR members from across the state joined Augusta area DAR members, elected officials, representatives from the tourism industry, and interested citizens for the groundbreaking ceremony and lunch at Sacred Heart. Guests included State Senator Randy Hall, District 22; Augusta-Richmond County Commissioner Barbara Sims, District 3; Jim Hussey representing United States Senator Saxby Chambliss; Nancy Bobbitt, District Director, representing United States Congressman Max Burns, Kathleen Black, Director of Constituent Services representing United States Congressman Charlie Norwood. You are sure to be impressed by the knowledgeable docents on hand at Meadow Garden. It is easy to envision life as it would have been some 200 years ago for George, his wife Dorothy, and their two sons, Thomas Camber and George Walton, Jr. After your tour, stop by the museum shop. It is packed with interesting gifts for friends and family...
