Cherry Creek State Park Campground

We stayed in the no hookups loop at Cherry Creek State Park. Campsites have a decent amount of space between them and the location is perfect for enjoying Denver.

The campground itself is attractive and we enjoyed walks to the lake in the evening. We also spotted deer several times and an owl.

The laundry facility was convenient and clean.

Total stay includes visits in the past three years, other sites included numbers 92 and 141. The park has a fourteen day maximum stay. State parks in Colorado require each vehicle to have a valid parks pass for each day, passes are $9 daily or $73 annual, we paid annual for a two week stay. If you tow a car, don't unhook prior to entering or they will charge each vehicle the entry fee (!!!) - not negotiable!

It's a lovely state park located in southeast Denver. The park has hiking trails, multi-use trails that allow bikes and horses, road and mountain bike trails, a reservoir (with a beach), and a huge natural dog off-leash park (additional $2 daily or $20 annual). There are great views of mountains in the distance and deer and coyote are seen frequently. The reservoir is home to much birdlife including bald eagles.

There are multiple loops, we've stayed in the Gold Rush loop twice and the Buffalo Loop once, both full hook-up with sites available for large rigs. There are some fabulous corner sites with nothing but nature on the living area side.

There are Sprouts and Albertson's grocery stores, and Starbucks within ten minutes of the park and lots of restaurants, banks and many other services within 30 minutes. It's a good location but about 25 minutes from the city center on the highway.

I have stayed here at Cherry Creek SP a few times. The sites are large, it is a convenient location for central or south Denver. Pretty area. There are places to walk along the lake and lots of places to ride bikes if you are into that sort of thing. There is some traffic noise at night but it's in the middle of town, that is to be expected.

Tips: take hand soap if you use the public toilets. The facilities are clean but they never have soap.

This state park is an urban oasis in Aurora, Colorado. It is not cheap, the full service site we had was $26.00 plus a $10 reservation fee (ReserveAmerica) plus a $9 day use fee that was paid at the park entrance. The campground was full the night we visited (a Tuesday) and the friendly host told us that it was full every night during the season. Our site was a long, level, paved pull-through. The park has a large, modern restroom/shower facility and it has in-park wifi that was not operational when we visited. Biking is big in this park with trail access to the city.

This is a great park to stay in when visiting the Denver area. You are on the edge of the city so there is a lot of traffic outside the park but the camping areas are a distance away from the access roads.

It's kind of hard to remember that this park is in the middle of the city. It's large and there is a lot of green space. One of our favorite things was the HUGE (107 acres) dog park. It's $2 a day/$20 annual to use it, but if your dogs like to run off leash, they will be so happy. In early summer, Cherry Creek is running through it and the dogs can play in the water. When we came back at the end of July, the water had mostly dried up.

We bounced in and out of this park four times and stayed in different loops. Here are my thoughts:
- Site 29 in Coyote Loop was my favorite by far. The view out my window was prairie and the neighbors felt very far away.
- In general, the outside spaces feel more private. The inside pull-thrus still give you space, but you're open to everyone. Site 54 in the Pioneer Loop was my least favorite because of this.
-Site 146 in Buffalo Loop is right against the entrance road. I was very surprised to find it very quiet and private. They built up the berm to separate you from the road and it's rather nice. You don't have much yard, but you feel secluded.
-Buffalo Loop also gives you quick access to the paved trails (near site 142) for riding your bike or walking the dogs. If you turn left on the path and go across the street, you can walk right to the swim beach.
- Site 97 in the Gold Rush loop feels nice and secluded in the yard. There's a tree that shields you from the sun and onlookers. The only downside is that you're at the opposite end of the park from the trails.

There is a nice laundry room and pay showers. Bring soap into the restrooms to wash your hands.

There's a lot of stuff in this park that we didn't even get to do or see. I'd go back if I needed to be in Denver. It's also convenient to the airport.

Also, the main entrance on Parker can get VERY crowded on Sunday afternoon when it seems like everyone is trying to get in. We had to wait 30 minutes or more a couple of times. There is another entrance on the Northwest side of the park (Dam rd). You have to drive all around the park to get to the campground, but if you don't want to sit around, it's worth it.

You would never know you were in the middle of Denver staying in this park. It is an oasis of nature in the middle of a sprawling suburban city. The campsites are pretty well spread out and very well maintained. They even have two laundry facilities on-site which was an unexpected surprise. There is a large trail system that runs through this park that looked pretty amazing from all the bikers we saw passing through (we were working and didn’t get to partake).

A very large park with lots of hiking, biking, shooting range, boating, fishing --- they have it all. We stayed in the dry loop and found it a little noisy and busy with mostly tent campers. The full hookup sites are nice and the ones away from Parker road look great.

Site was flat, huge sitting area, fire pit and picnic table. View consist of other campsites and the mountains. Lots of trees, so solar was limited to just part of the day.

The park has an interesting method for selling last minute unreserved sites -- at 9am every day you can sign up on a list at the campground office. Then at 12pm you must be in the office, and they go through the list and will award sites as available. We did use this process to upgrade to full hookups for a couple of nights during a snow storm (yes snow during our May stay).

We would stay here again, as it is close to family. We will probably try and book full hookup sites away from Parker road.

This is another great Colorado State Park Campground! The majority of the sites are large enough for big rigs. The loop we were in was primarily large RV's. There was a lot of room between sites and there were many large beautiful trees. Even the back-in sites were very large.
We enjoyed deer going through the campsites almost everyday.
All sites were very clean, level and easy access to the bathrooms and showers. I did not use those facilities so cannot comment on those. Except they had vending machines in the buildings which my boyfriend loved because they had ice cream!
There was a fire ring and picnic table at each site.
There was some road noise from Hwy 225 nearby and Parker Rd., but it wasn't significant enough for concern.
The check in process was easy and smooth.
There are MANY trails for hiking and cycling in the park. There were paved and gravel trails.
The dog park is spectacular! Cherry Creek goes through the dog park so there is clean, slow moving water through the dog park.
We did not go to the beach or use the lake but all the facilities looked very nice and very clean.
Word of caution! If you arrive on the week-end, use the west entrance and not what is considered the "main" entrance on the each side. There is only 1 lane for those buying daily passes and those (like us) who have a state park pass and should be able to just drive through the left lane. The park needs to address this as there is plenty of room to add a 2nd entrance lane.

We have a WiFi Ranger which gave us strong access to the parks Wi-Fi service. We would not have been able to use the park's Wi-Fi without the WiFi Ranger as their signal wasn't strong enough. Cell service on Verizon was strong.
There are nearby grocery stores from both entrances. Again, I preferred the stores and restaurants on the west side vs the east side. The neighborhoods on each side of the lake are very different.

This is a great park if you need to be near the city for work or family.

Cherry Creek State Park offers a great combination of location, price, hookups, and site-size! The location is convenient, with the entrance to the park less than a mile from I-225, and plenty of stores, restaurants, theaters, etc. nearby since the park is in the middle of the suburbs. Our site in Pioneer Loop had some background traffic noise from Parker Rd but it wasn't too noticeable. The sites were plenty wide and spacious, but they don't provide much privacy since it's mostly grass between sites, and only a few trees. Most sites are "C-shaped" pull-throughs on the side of the road, but we picked a back-in which we prefer for extra privacy. Some sites looked a little un-level but ours (#47) was fine. The park is huge, with plenty of places to walk or bike, as well as a swim beach with a section our dog enjoyed visiting often. The other end of the state park has a 107-acre fenced dog park with a nice river (Cherry Creek) running right through it, which we frequented as well (it's $2/day to enter the dog park, or buy an annual pass for $20). AT&T and Verizon were both fast, plus the park has free WiFi that worked pretty well except during the busiest times (evenings and weekends). Probably our only complaint is that the park roads to get to the campground are in pretty poor condition, very bumpy and patched multiple times. Since it's a 6-8 minute drive to the camp sites once you enter the park, you're on these roads a lot. $30 for full hookups, large sites, WiFi, and a beautiful nature setting just a couple miles from "civilization" made for a great experience, and we'll definitely return! Worth noting, we stayed for 14 days, but had to make our reservation months in advance for that to be possible. The park was full almost every day.

When one is accustomed to dispersed camping or primitive camping in the national forest than one may expect the low pricing in a state park, however, their services, staffing and budget come from our entrance fees, camping fees and so on.

There is a $9 daily fee charged at the main gate plus the camping fee. My suggestion is a yearly pass as it allows use of 42 parks and multiple uses for $70.

Showers are $.50 for three minutes so I actually spent $.75 to shampoo long hair, shave & shower. Water was hot to lukewarm.

Laundry room costs: $1.75 to wash & $1.25 to dry.

Excellent trails. Wildlife abounds with turkey, mule deer, hawks, eagles and more.
